strong personality: it's fall!

One of the things I found out about Winnipeg is that it has a strong personality. Summer wasn't even over yet and it was 6 degrees in the morning, then in the afternoon suddenly turned to 25. Now fall just started and today it's supposed to be 29. Strong personality, that's all I have to say.

Since my first day here all I hear from people is: "Ohh the winter. Get ready for it, it will be COLD", and by cold they mean -40. Do I know what this feels like? NO. Have no idea. The coldest I've ever got was -20 in Toronto and I didn't leave the house until it got warmer, because I was very afraid of freezing, literally.

So yeah, winter will be interesting. Like my mom says, "Your biggest challenge will be nature." Not people, not language barriers, NATURE. hahaha

This is the view I wake up to everyday. Fall started this week and suddenly the leaves turned from green into yellow, orange and red. It got warmer and we had sunny beautiful days!

I went on a walk with my mom to enjoy the remaining sunbeams from summer. It was so nice!

I really don't know what winter will look like but I bet it will be just as inspiring as fall is.
When the leaves fall down from the trees looks like it is raining. The roads become a giant pool of leaves and the cars are covered in yellow, orange and red shades.

I still didn't finish assembling my dresser. I didn't have time at all to work on that this week. A lot of school work was due today and I really wanted to put an effort on them. Hopefully today I'll be able finish it!

This is my mom's last weekend here in Winnipeg :(
She will go back to Brazil and ten days later my dad is coming to visit me :D
I hope he loves this city as much as we do!

The picture below it's just a reminder to myself. I loved that sentence. "Pain is not a lifestyle."

Hope you guys have a great weekend! :)

new beginnings!

About three weeks ago, me and my mom entered an airplane to wake up in a totally different country. Canada. After sleeping one night in Toronto (oh that's too bad huh? haha) we woke up to fly another 2 and a half hours to Winnipeg, where I'm starting a new life.

Honestly, I've never imagined this city would be as good as it is! My first thoughts about it were that it was small, with not much of socialization to do, but when I got here and started driving around, my opinion changed.

St. Vital, Osborne Village, Broadway Street. These are places that I was not expecting! Their architecture is so beautiful! Different from Curitiba, where I  was living in Brazil, there is a variety of places you can go and my goal is to go to a different place every week. I want to let you know how is life in The Peg in the eyes of a Brazilian woman!

Last weekend we booked a car and drove around some neighbourhoods to find garage sales. I wanted to buy old furniture to turn it into new. I bought a coffee table for 8 dollars and an very old chest made out of aluminium for 15 dollars! Awesome! That was the day I went from someone who was sitting on the ground to eat and watch tv to someone who now has a table and two chairs! I still have to buy two more chairs though, since in December I'll have my family visiting. hahaha

After having lunch and dropping the furnitures at home we went to The Home Depot to buy primer and paint. I almost went crazy! Too many colours to choose!
I got a pale pink to paint my bed table and my chest, and a greyish white to paint my coffee table.

Another thing. Marshalls and Home Sense. What is that? For a Interior Designer like me it was paradise. I could spend endless hours in there choosing some decor to my new home! Honestly, every time I go in there Gwen Stefani's Rich Girl song comes to my mind, I feel rich. R I C H.

Ikea. Who needs men when you have Ikea? Me and my mom bought a bed and a dresser there. Heavy. Oh it was heavy! But we made it! We got the furniture out of the store in the car, out of the car in the house, and we ASSEMBLED IT! well, the bed at least. We are still finding courage to assemble the dresser.

I'm so proud of my mom and I. We made it to Winnipeg!
