new beginnings!

About three weeks ago, me and my mom entered an airplane to wake up in a totally different country. Canada. After sleeping one night in Toronto (oh that's too bad huh? haha) we woke up to fly another 2 and a half hours to Winnipeg, where I'm starting a new life.

Honestly, I've never imagined this city would be as good as it is! My first thoughts about it were that it was small, with not much of socialization to do, but when I got here and started driving around, my opinion changed.

St. Vital, Osborne Village, Broadway Street. These are places that I was not expecting! Their architecture is so beautiful! Different from Curitiba, where I  was living in Brazil, there is a variety of places you can go and my goal is to go to a different place every week. I want to let you know how is life in The Peg in the eyes of a Brazilian woman!

Last weekend we booked a car and drove around some neighbourhoods to find garage sales. I wanted to buy old furniture to turn it into new. I bought a coffee table for 8 dollars and an very old chest made out of aluminium for 15 dollars! Awesome! That was the day I went from someone who was sitting on the ground to eat and watch tv to someone who now has a table and two chairs! I still have to buy two more chairs though, since in December I'll have my family visiting. hahaha

After having lunch and dropping the furnitures at home we went to The Home Depot to buy primer and paint. I almost went crazy! Too many colours to choose!
I got a pale pink to paint my bed table and my chest, and a greyish white to paint my coffee table.

Another thing. Marshalls and Home Sense. What is that? For a Interior Designer like me it was paradise. I could spend endless hours in there choosing some decor to my new home! Honestly, every time I go in there Gwen Stefani's Rich Girl song comes to my mind, I feel rich. R I C H.

Ikea. Who needs men when you have Ikea? Me and my mom bought a bed and a dresser there. Heavy. Oh it was heavy! But we made it! We got the furniture out of the store in the car, out of the car in the house, and we ASSEMBLED IT! well, the bed at least. We are still finding courage to assemble the dresser.

I'm so proud of my mom and I. We made it to Winnipeg!

  1. Ligia - your excitement is contagious! I love reading about people who see Winnipeg the way I see it - beautiful, interesting and fun. I moved to Winnipeg when I was 29, and it took me a lot longer to fall in love with it. I look forward to reading more as you explore the city - and outside the city as well. PS - I put an IKEA dresser together this summer - very easy! Good luck with yours!
